Author Interview
1.       Where are you from?
Houston, Texas. I live near the beach and I love it.

2.       What do you do when you’re not writing?
When I’m not writing I’m usually complaining that I should be writing. I also like to paint my nails once a day, chase the dog around the house and read books with my kiddo.

3.       Where did the idea for Powered come from?
I watched all 3 Spiderman movies in a row one Saturday and then got the idea that I could write a better superhero story than that. And one with a girl heroine for once. It was the first time I was ever compelled to write something outside of my YA contemporary genre.

4.       What book are you reading now?
The Summer I Turned Pretty by Jenny Han. It sat in my TBR pile for WAY too long before I finally got to it. It’s a great book.

5.       What was the hardest part in writing Powered?
Just writing fantasy in general was hard for me because it was my first time creating a world that’s different from the norm. My heroes have their own powers and abilities and it was fun but super challenging trying to create and describe that.

6.       What was your favorite part of writing Powered?
Writing the fight scenes! And the cliff hangers. No really, at one point Maci actually hangs from a cliff. What can I say, I like torturing my characters.

7.       What are your current projects?
I have a YA urban fantasy and a NA Contemporary that’s romance but not erotica if that makes sense… both of these will be finished soon and then the sequel to Powered, Overpowered will be released in November.

8.      Can you share a little of your current work with us?
I’m finishing up a YA urban fantasy about two friends who find a magical world that cures them of their illnesses but will kill them if they stay there too long. My daughter calls it the ‘firefly’ story and it’s her favorite thing I’ve ever dreamed up, so I’m pretty excited to finish it. It’s called Somewhere Only We Know and you can find it on Goodreads here: https://www.goodreads.com/book/show/20986791-somewhere-only-we-know

9.       Do you have anything specific that you want to say to your readers?
Just a big huge thanks to everyone who reads my books! They’re all fabulous and beautiful people.

OK………….. Now that all the serious questions are out of the way, let’s have some fun.

10.   What is your most embarrassing moment?
I once sent a text talking bad about someone TO that person on accident. And did I say once? Because I meant twice.

11.    What is one of the things you would put on your “bucket list”?
Flying a plane. My SO is a pilot so I’m hoping he can teach me one day.

12.    If you could be any flavor of ice cream what flavor would you be and why?
Something with peanut butter and chocolate in it.

13.    What is one thing that annoys you the most?
Seeing the wrong you’re/your online. Either in a text, blog post, comment, tweet, FB status, whatever – it drives me INSANE.

14.    What is the strangest thing you’ve ever eaten?
Well there was this time where my sister said, “I dare you to eat a piece of cat food.” And I said, “Only if you eat one too.” So we counted to 3 and then ate the piece of cat food. Did I mention we were both adults at the time? Yeah.

15.    Are you a morning or night person?
I’m the most productive in the morning, but not because I like mornings…it’s just because my family is still asleep then. That’s when I get my special alone time to write without being bothered.

16.    What’s your favorite movie?
Ahhhhhhhh, why are you doing this to me? It’s too hard to pick. But if I go by which DVDs have been watched the most, I’ll have to say Ever After, The Princess Bride and Hot Rod.

17.    Where is the worst place you could get stuck?
In a place that’s cold. I’m a baby when it comes to cold weather.

18.   Where would you go if you were invisible?
I’d probably follow my kid around and make sure no one messes with her and that she stays safe. I’m boring... I know.

19.    What is the one thing you own you wish you didn’t?
My dog has this ratty old stuffed cow that she loves and I despise. I’d like to toss it out, but I never have the heart to because she loves that gross thing.

20.   If you were stranded on a tropical island what 2 things would you want with you?
My kid and my husband! (And I’d want them to come equipped with survival gear and lots of food)

21.    If you could choose your nickname, what would it be?
Right now my friends call me Chey, as in the first half of my name... but they say it like ‘Shay’ and I hate it! I’d rather them say it like the FIRST HALF OF MY NAME as in “Shy”. So call me that. J

Powered
Maci Might's sixteenth birthday is supposed to be the day she's awarded Hero status. But thanks to a tiny anger problem and a questionable family tree, King City's elders think it's best if she doesn't join the Hero ranks. Determined to change their minds, Maci will break whatever rule it takes to prove she's Hero material. As her hair darkens and her anger grows, everyone turns against her except Evan; a childhood friend turned scientist who may be able to unlock the secrets hidden in her DNA.

When a villain attacks King City and her dad is held prisoner, Maci discovers a truth she refuses to believe. She may not be a Hero after all—but this time the Heroes of King City need her more than she needs them. And she won't let them down.

Powered is the first in a trilogy.

5 Super Powerful Stars
Are you ready for a book that has a whole lot of action, a little romance, and a whole lot of kick ass?!? Well this is the book for you.  This is a unique story about superheros and villains.  One of the things that makes it SO unique, is the fact that the main character for this superhero  extravaganza is a girl.  Meet Maci Might, a girl who has grown up knowing exactly what she wants to be once she turns 16, a hero.  But unfortunately, Maci doesn't pass her superhero test.  Here's the twist... Maci is a bit of a hot head, and that little trait tends to get her in a bit of trouble.  But what's also interesting is that Maci is a twin, and in this superhero world, you usually have one good twin and one evil twin.  But Maci's twin died, so no one truly knows if Maci is good or evil (though most suspect evil).  Maci is determined to prove them all wrong, and will do whatever it takes to become a true hero.  Throughout this story we get to watch Maci grow and mature.  She learns how to control her temper a lot.  This story is filled with wonderful twists and turns that will not let you put the book down until you discover what will happen next.  I loved this story, characters, and the author's writing style! Can not wait for MUCH MUCH more Maci!
